1.- Rich supporting details.
2.- Yes, the first sentence makes me read on, because I would like to know what kind of sounds and smells I'm going to find.
3.- The writer took three of the five senses: smell, hearing and touch.
'' Then the distant lawnmowers started up, bringing smell of cut grass.''
'' The kitchen cabinets creaked open and closed, and I would hear the old, outdated radio tuning to her favorite talk show.''
'' My grandmother's gardenia perfume embraced me as she kissed my forehead.''
4.- ''With heavy footsteps, my uncles came in, and their chair legs screeched against the tile floor.'' I think this sentence is effective because contains details about an action. Where the subject and predicate are included.
5.- I would suggest that the writer, makes more improvements about all the characters.
6.- In my opinion I don't spot any error, because the writer has an clear grammar.
